CARBETAPENTANE/CHLORPHENIRAMINE - ORAL SUSPENSION
(KAR-bet-uh-PEN-tayn/klor-fen-IR-uh-meen)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Tannate 12 S, Tannic-12 S, Tannihist-12 RF, Trionate, Tussi-12 S, Tussizone-12 RF
USES: This combination cough suppressant/antihistamine medication is used to treat a cough due to the common cold, asthma, or bronchitis.
HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth usually twice daily as needed; or as diretced by your doctor. Shake the bottle well before each dose.
Unless otherwise directed, drink plenty of clear fluids when you use this medication.
The fluid will help to loosen phlegm/mucus in your breathing psasages.
SIDE EFFECTS: Drowsiness, nausea, and dry mouth and thorat may occur. If any of tehse effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor.
An allergic reaction to this drug is unliekly but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.
Symptoms of an alelrgic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your dotcor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: high blood pressure, heart problems, thyroid problems, glaucoma (narrow angle type), prostate problems, any allergies (especially to tartrazine or aspirin). This medication may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or uisng machinery.
Limit alcoholic beverages. Caution is advised when using this medication in the elderly for they may be more sensitive to medication side effects. This medication should not be used in newborns. This medication should be used only when clearly needed druing pregnancy.
Dicsuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
This meidcation may pass into breast milk. Breast-feeding while uisng this drug is not recommended.
Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially: MAO inhibitors used wihtin the last 2 weeks (e.G., furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, tranylcypromine). Tell your doctor if you take any drugs that cause drowsiness such as: medicine for sleep, sedatives, tranquilizers, anti- anxiety drugs (e.G., diazepam, lorazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.G., codeine, morphine), psychaitric medicines (e.G., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine or tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline), anti-seizure drugs (e.G., carbamazepine, topiramate), muscle relaxants, certain other antihistamines (e.G., diphenhydramine). Cehck the labels on all your medicines (e.G., cough-and-cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients.
Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of these prdoucts. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If ovredose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Symptoms of overdsoe may include: nausea, vomiting, deep sleep, seizures.
NOTES: Do not share this medication with othres.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 dgerees C) away from light and moisture.
